Believe vs. Believe In? 1

Believe vs. Believe In?

By Greg King

It may surprise some today to learn that God speaks to us. Only it’s not in the way and manner in which some believe and teach. Some are falsely teaching that God is speaking directly to them and revealing information to them through visions. To the novice of God’s word this may sound amazing and exciting, but to the Christian who understands and knows what the Bible says it is cause for sadness and concern. Sadness because of the blatant disregard for plain Bible teaching and concern for the unsuspecting, innocent individuals that are being swept away by the dishonesty of another.

I once asked a gathering of people, “how many of you believe in God?” Not surprisingly every one of them raised their hand and some raised both hands. I then asked, “how many of you believe God?” This time the reply was met with a hint of reservation.

In Matthew 28:18 Jesus tells His disciples, “All authority is given unto me in heaven and on earth.” Jesus makes it very clear that ALL authority belongs to Him and we have absolutely no right to speak or act unless it is authorized by Him. Colossians 3:17 says, “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” Without His authority we are acting without law which is sin which will cause many to be lost (Matt. 7:21-23).

I am finding more and more as I study with people and listen to them talk that they do believe in God, but they don’t believe God.  The Bible says, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2Tim. 3:16-17)  If God is still revealing information to individuals today whether directly or through visions then the bible isn’t able to do what it says that it does. 2 Peter 1:3 says, “as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,” How could this be true if there is a need for God to directly reveal information to people today. Is the bible is a phony? Is God is a lair? Whether sincere or not that is exactly what some are saying when they contradict plain Bible teaching.
