Welcome

Who Are We?

The portion of our name “Decatur Township” is based on our geographical location in a township southwest of Indianapolis, IN; the name “church of Christ” is taken from Romans 16:16, “The churches of Christ salute you.” The New Testament uses the plural form “churches of Christ” to refer to the various local congregations who identified themselves as disciples of Jesus the Christ. We, too, identify ourselves as Christians, disciples of Christ who meet for our worship in Decatur Township. Our goal and aim is to be disciples of Christ, Christians.

What Do We Believe

Our goal is to believe and teach what is revealed in the Bible. We believe that the Bible is the revelation of God’s will to mankind. Though written by human authors, “holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit” (2 Pet. 1:21). Therefore, we believe that the Bible is the infallible and inerrant word of God.

We believe that the Bible reveals that both Jesus (John 1:1-2) and the Holy Spirit (Acts 5:3-4) are deity and that Father, Son, and Holy Spirit constitute the one God.

We believe that Jesus’s death on the cross was the atoning sacrifice for sin (Matt. 26:28; 1 John 1:7; Eph. 1:7; Heb. 9:14; etc.).

We believe that the Bible defines what is sin and that God has called His people to holiness in life (1 Pet. 1:15-16). Although we are imperfect in our obedience to God, we are committed to turning away from our sins and living in obedience to His revealed word.

What Is Your Worship Like?

Since we offer our worship to God, our goal is to learn what God wants in His worship and to offer that to Him. The worship of first century disciples of Christ consisted of singing praises to God (Eph. 5:19; Col. 3:16), prayer (Acts 2:42), preaching what Jesus revealed (called “the apostles’ doctrine” in Acts 2:42), observance of the Lord’s supper (Acts 20:7) and taking up a collection to finance our work in each Sunday’s assembly (1 Cor. 16:1-2).
