DOES IT REALLY MATTER? (1)

DOES IT REALLY MATTER? (1)

Greg King

It has always amazed me that God gave us one book and yet here are many different things that people believe in religion. There are different kinds of churches teaching different things and practicing many different things. All of these conflicting views are not taught in the Bible. As a matter of fact, Paul told the Corinthians in his first letter that, “God is not the author of confusion but of peace” 14:26.

The message of the gospel is recorded in the scriptures, and it has never changed. But what about all of the other views taught in the world today? Can we believe something different from what the scriptures teach and still be right with God? Does it make a difference what we believe in spiritual matters?

What we believe one way or the other certainly doesn't change the truth. Believing something doesn't make it so and not believing a thing does not make it false. Right and wrong are determined by God's word. Whether or not you believe the truth does not change what God has said. So in that sense it doesn't make a difference what we believe because we will still be judged by God's word. Whether we believe it or not does not change God's standard of judgment. Jesus says in John 12:48, “The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day.”

If you were to believe that 1+1=10, it wouldn't change the truth that 1+1=2. Believing that 1+1=10 will not make it so. Believing a thing to be true doesn't make it true. The answer to 1+1 will always be 2 no matter what someone might believe about it.

Believing a thing to be false doesn't make it false. Once it was considered false to believe that the earth is round. I recently saw a video of two so called “pastors” arguing over whether the earth is flat. Go figure! Also, it was thought to be false to believe that the earth revolved around the sun. The common belief was that the earth was flat and that the sun revolved around the earth. Regardless of what was believed that didn't change the truth.

It does make a difference what we believe in reference to our being saved or being lost. God saves through faith in the gospel and those who do not believe the gospel will be condemned Mark 16:15-16. Do you believe it?
