Why Does My Family Need the Bible (3)

Why Does My Family Need The Bible? (3)

By Greg King

The Bible gives us God’s definition of genuine love. Only the Bible teaches and demonstrates the essence of pure and true love. In Ephesians 5:25 the instruction is, “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.” John 3:16 says, “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” The Bible defines “love” as a selfless giving of self for the benefit of others. If our children are going to grow up understanding what love truly is they are going to need the Bible. We should want our family to understand what love is, so that they can have the right basis for marriage, the right attitude toward their parents and, the right attitude toward their children and fellowman. Jesus said, “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” (John 13:34-35).

Within your family, love needs to be without boundaries. It needs to be unlimited.  Husbands and wives, parents and children should set no limits on what they will do for the welfare and joy of the other. It needs to be unending. There is never to be a time when husband and wives cease to love each other. The sacrificial, submissive love of the Bible calls upon family members to never stop loving each other, regardless of how they might treat us. It must be unselfish. It is by looking first to the interests of others that mine will best be met. By God's design we are not members of a family in order to have someone to love us but rather to have someone to love. If each family member will possess the same attitude, then the family can prosper in happiness and peace. God wants your family to prosper in happiness and peace. That’s why He has given us the instructions to follow. In many homes today it’s not being followed. Disaster is the result.
