Why Does My Family Need The Bible? (5)

By Greg King

“And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matt. 16:18).

My family needs the Bible to come to know the church that Jesus built. Today we can observe organized religions and never come to know what God intended for the church and what Christ died for. Jesus said that He would build His church, not churches. Some say, “One church is as good as another.” They are told or assume that denominationalism is God’s plan, or that it is all right with God. But the Bible says differently. Paul tells those at Ephesus that, “there is one church” (Eph. 4:4). The Bible says there is one church, but if you do a Google search or simply look down the street today, you will find many different churches.

This has serious implications not only in the religious world at large but in our individual lives as well. There are all kinds of organizations that claim to be “churches” having some kind of connection to Jesus of Nazareth. There are so many of these with such diverse creeds and characters that there is much confusion and disagreement concerning the church that Jesus said He would build. This causes a dilemma. If the church that Jesus built exists today, how can we find it? How can we find that one body among all these different groups?

The great thing about the church that Jesus built is that we don’t have to guess about it. We have a pattern to follow in the New Testament. As the New Testament ends there is no mention of one single denomination but rather the Lord’s church—the church that He built and purchased with His blood.
